TODAY IN THE ORCHARD
Excuse the absence of ten days. While we were away, Laura was able to spray twice, once with Surround (for plum curculio), Cueva and Double Nickel (Fire Blight protection), and Cydx (for codling moth protection). They also sprayed parasitic nematodes for long-term protection from Plum Curculio.
The first flush of wild flowers has invaded Finley Lane, including Buttercups, Hawk Weed, White clover, Red clover and Comfrey. The chives are at peak bloom and will be gone soon. The orchard is now a scattering of white, yellow and pink. Seth’s five bee hives seem very happy. The apples are approaching 1/2”, some in singles and some in clusters. We also appear (so far) to have a good peach, plum and tart cherry crop.
