neil’s titanic

Neil’s Titanic is a seedling with cider potential that was introduced to us by Sebastian Lousada of Flag Hill Cider in Vershire, VT. Some years ago Sebastian wrote to me about “an amazingly tannic wild tree that is one I am thinking of gathering scions from since I use a sprinkling every year in my cider blend. It is at the top of the mountain and hard to get to also so will see if that is this year.” When we first learned of the apple, Sebastian was calling it ‘Top of the Tannic’, but he subsequently named it after a fruit exploring buddy. Needless to say, he did make it up the mountain and sent us scionwood. Although it’s too early for us assess its cider potential, the tree is doing really well here in our orchard. It’s vigorous and healthy, and we’re looking forward to our first good crop. Currently growing at Super Chilly Farm.
